DevOpsGroup – An agile approach to WooCommerce.
The task for the team at Illustrate Digital was to create a brand new website to help launch The DevOpsGroup Academy.
The Project.
As part of their ambitious growth plans at DevOpsGroup, making waves in the world of tech, they went out looking for a new agency to design and build their Academy website. When we arrived to discuss the site, the Academy didn’t yet exist and was in its early stages of creation, building on the successes of the main devops consultancy business and looking to teach more of these specialist skills to people across the UK.
The task for the team at Illustrate Digital was to help create a brand new site to help launch the Academy, which needed to work in line with the main brand identity and to allow users to find and book courses relevant to them in their location. Oh, and it had to be WordPress. 😉
Our Work With DevOpsGroup.
The DevOpsGroup branding is really unique and represents their character well, so it was a pleasure to allow this branding to flow throughout the Academy website. We explored user stories, planned and mapped out a unique user experience and used these plans to create a fresh design that would guide a user effortlessly in exploring relevant courses, before moving quickly into the purchase pathway.
The site is built to display multiple courses on multiple dates in multiple cities, whilst giving the user a good understanding of what to expect on each of the courses. To enable us to create these courses, to register users and to process payments, we enlisted the help of the WooCommerce platform for WordPress.
WooCommerce is a popular e-commerce software, but it isn’t a course booking platform by default. In order to handle the courses we custom-developed a purchase pathway; one that would allow the site to benefit from a smooth sign-up process, whilst also taking key details from delegates in a GDPR-friendly way.
The result is a great looking website that is on-brand throughout, easy to use and contains useful features that allow DevOpsGroup to manage their courses and delegates in an efficient way.
Bespoke Course Booking Journey.
We wanted to really simplify the journey a user takes when selecting and booking a course, which meant re-working some of the WooCommerce checkout functionality to create our own checkout process. Sometimes plugins don’t cut it and, after all, customising and developing in WordPress is what we do best.
