Most people have heard of WordPress, but many don’t understand just what all the fuss is about, so I’m going to try and explain it to you…
Would you believe me if I told you that 15% of all of the world’s websites are powered by this little content management software called WordPress? Well, it’s true. It in fact accounts for a huge 66% of all content management based websites in the world.
Huh? What’s a content management system (CMS)? Well, it does what it says on the tin really. It manages your content. Websites can get really confusing, really quickly. A CMS basically hides all of the confusing code stuff behind a nice user interface and helps you to easily update your website.
WordPress, in particular, is especially good at this. It’s got a really simple user experience with a high level of optimisation (or at least optimisation potential) to help Google in finding your website much more easily. And is it any wonder that we chose it to build all of our sites with at Love Wigan?
So who uses WordPress, exactly? And why only 15%?
- Companies as popular as Nikon, Pepsi, Intel, eBay, Adidas, BBC, Nokia, Dell, Yahoo, Ford and so many more have chosen to use WordPress to help manage their HUGE amount of content. So if it can handle stuff for these massive companies, it can sure handle yours! And clearly they think it’s top banana.Well…
- 15%…? Well not everybody needs a CMS. And not everybody wants one. A lot of people like to have their websites built using just pure code, with nothing else to support them, and that’s just fine. Only easy to manage if you’re a web geek though. Besides, I reckon a lot more people would have chosen WordPress if they even knew about it, or understood how good it really is (says eBay, the BBC and a few other small time names, y’know).
Want to know more about WordPress, how it looks and be given even more reasons for its awesomeness? You’ll have to wait just a little longer, but I’ll be posting more content about it, so stay tuned!
